Specifications are based on VOOPOO's current official product information and the original ARGUS Z documentation.

The Biggest Upgrade Is Not the Extra 3W

The ARGUS Z3 increases maximum output from 17W to 20W.

Technically, that is an upgrade.

In practice, it is probably the least interesting difference between these two devices.

Both products are designed mainly for straightforward MTL use rather than high-power RDL vaping. An extra 3W does not suddenly turn the Z3 into a performance pod.

The much more important change is the cartridge.

Multi-Ohm Makes the Z3 Much More Flexible

The original ARGUS Z shipped with a conventional 0.7Ω ARGUS Pod Cartridge. If you wanted a different resistance, you changed to another compatible pod.

The Z3 introduces the ARGUS Multi-Ohm Cartridge.

With the Z3, the same cartridge can provide 0.7Ω and 1.0Ω experiences, switched by changing the cartridge orientation. VOOPOO describes this as its Multi-Core Electrode technology.

That creates a meaningful difference in daily use:

0.7Ω: warmer, fuller and slightly more vapor-oriented.

1.0Ω: tighter, calmer and better suited to traditional MTL preferences.

This is a better upgrade than simply increasing wattage because it gives users more choice without adding buttons or menus.

For beginners, that is exactly the type of customization that makes sense.

Battery: 900mAh to 1100mAh

Battery capacity increases from 900mAh to 1100mAh, roughly a 22% increase.

The original ARGUS Z already offered respectable endurance considering its low output. VOOPOO promoted the 900mAh battery as capable of around two days depending on usage.

The Z3 keeps a similar low-power philosophy while adding another 200mAh of capacity.

That does not mean every user will suddenly get dramatically longer runtime — puff frequency, resistance and usage habits still matter — but the extra capacity gives the Z3 more headroom.

For someone using a pod throughout the day, this is one of the more useful practical improvements.

The Z3 Is Bigger — And That Matters

There is one trade-off that is easy to miss.

The original ARGUS Z measures only 91.45mm tall, while the Z3 grows to 113mm.

So despite VOOPOO positioning the Z3 as lightweight, it is not actually smaller than the original ARGUS Z.

The older Z remains impressively compact.

Weight difference is relatively minor — the Z3 is 41.6g while published measurements of the original Z sit around 37–39g.

Portability winner: ARGUS Z

If your definition of a good pod is simply “as small as possible,” the original Z still has an advantage.

Everyday usability winner: ARGUS Z3
The Z3 uses its larger body to deliver a bigger battery and a higher-capacity cartridge.

That is a reasonable trade.

3.5mL Is a Significant Practical Upgrade

The original ARGUS Z launched with a 2mL cartridge.

The standard ARGUS Z3 increases that to 3.5mL, while TPD markets continue to receive a 2mL version.

A 1.5mL increase may not sound exciting on a feature list, but it can matter more than the power increase.

More capacity means fewer refills during the day.

The Z3 also moves to a top-filling Multi-Ohm Cartridge, making routine refilling more convenient than the original side-fill pod supplied with the ARGUS Z.

For frequent users, this is one of the strongest reasons to prefer the newer model.

Z3 Improves Safety Without Making the Device Complicated

The original ARGUS Z listed four primary protections:

Overtime protection
Short-circuit protection
Overcharge protection
Low-battery protection
The Z3 expands this to eight safety protections, adding measures including over-temperature, over-current, maximum-power and connection protection.

The important part is that the user does not have to manage any of this.

The Z3 remains an auto-draw device.

That preserves the original Z philosophy: more technology inside, without creating more work for the user.

Both Still Benefit From the ARGUS Pod Ecosystem

One reason the original ARGUS Z aged reasonably well is cartridge compatibility.

It was designed around the ARGUS Pod platform rather than an isolated cartridge system.

The Z3 continues that approach and VOOPOO currently lists it as compatible with the wider ARGUS Pod Family, including current top-fill cartridges.

That means upgrading does not necessarily mean abandoning the ecosystem you already use.

This is an important advantage for existing ARGUS owners.

ARGUS Z3 vs ARGUS Z: Where You Will Actually Notice the Difference

Area Winner Why
Pocket size ARGUS Z Much shorter body
Battery ARGUS Z3 1100mAh vs 900mAh
Pod capacity ARGUS Z3 Up to 3.5mL
Draw flexibility ARGUS Z3 0.7Ω + 1.0Ω Multi-Ohm
Simplicity Tie Both remain auto-draw
Safety ARGUS Z3 8 protections vs 4
Charging ARGUS Z3 5V/1A vs 5V/0.7A
Pod ecosystem Tie Both belong to ARGUS Pod family
Overall versatility ARGUS Z3 Clearly broader everyday usability

Should Existing ARGUS Z Owners Upgrade?

Upgrade if you want:
Better battery capacity
A larger 3.5mL cartridge
Easier top filling
0.7Ω and 1.0Ω options from one Multi-Ohm pod
More modern safety protection
A more versatile everyday ARGUS device
For those users, the Z3 is a meaningful upgrade.

Keep your ARGUS Z if:
Your current device still works well
You already like the 0.7Ω experience
Compact size is your highest priority
900mAh is enough for your daily usage
You do not care about Multi-Ohm functionality

This is important because the ARGUS Z3 does not make the original ARGUS Z obsolete.

If all you need is a very small, simple MTL device, the original Z still performs the same basic job.

Which One Should a New Buyer Choose?

For a new buyer choosing between the two today, the answer is much easier.

Choose ARGUS Z3
The combination of:

1100mAh battery + 3.5mL cartridge + Multi-Ohm technology + top filling + 8 safety protections

makes it the more complete device.

The original ARGUS Z only becomes especially attractive if compact size or a significantly lower price matters more than the newer features.

Final Verdict

The ARGUS Z3 is a real upgrade over the ARGUS Z, but not because it increases power from 17W to 20W.

The meaningful improvements are elsewhere.

The battery grows from 900mAh to 1100mAh, standard cartridge capacity moves from 2mL to 3.5mL, and the new Multi-Ohm Cartridge lets users switch between 0.7Ω and 1.0Ω without replacing the pod. Safety protection has also been expanded while the device remains as straightforward to operate as before.

There is one clear compromise: the Z3 is noticeably taller.

So existing ARGUS Z owners who value its tiny size do not need to rush to replace it.

But for anyone buying a new simple ARGUS pod today, the ARGUS Z3 is the stronger all-round choice.

Our Verdict

ARGUS Z3: 8.7/10
Best for users who want a simple pod with better battery life and more flexibility.

ARGUS Z: 8.0/10
Still a good choice for users who prioritize compact size and basic MTL use.

Upgrade verdict: Worth it if the larger battery, 3.5mL pod and Multi-Ohm function matter to you. If your original ARGUS Z still meets your needs, upgrading is useful rather than essential.
